Why Manifesting Isn't Working For You – Ravena Bailey

Manifesting

What is manifestation?

Today, people use the term manifestation and take it to mean something along the lines of – Thinking/visualizing something in your mind and then it will become your reality.

The problem with this general definition of manifestation is that it forgets something extremely important: Action.

Why I don’t like the term, ‘manifesting’

The reason why I have come to dislike the term manifesting/manifestation (or any other variation) is because people use the above definition and swear that their life will change simply because they’re thinking/creating their dream life. This is not the case.

You can’t wish for a really nice house in a good area and expect yourself to actually get the house without doing any work (unless you’re really lucky). Similarly, if you have an exam coming up, you won’t get an A by simply imagining that you’ll get an A.

If manifesting were really as simple as that, then everyone would be fulfilled in the world. But that’s not the case. Most good things in life don’t come easy.

TikTok has completely taken over this idea of manifesting and people have been listening to certain frequencies, doing the 3-6-9 method of writing down their goals and visualizing their future in hopes of changing their life in some way. Doing all of these things is pointless if you’re not going to put your words/dreams into action.

Take action

If you want something, you have to work for it. If you still want to manifest your life and visualize the life you want, that’s perfectly fine! As long as you’re also putting in the work to get there. Visualizing your goals has been proven to help people achieve them, because their goals seem more realistic, they’re more open to trying new things, their mind is preparing itself for this new future and they’re more likely to actively work towards their goals.

Here’s a more effective way you can go about achieving your goals that will also help you stay driven and not give up:

Action Plan:

  • Write down your goals.
    • Keep the list between 2-5 goals. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself.
  • Make a realistic time frame for when you want to achieve these goals.
    • This will depend on how challenging the goal is and the amount of time you have. Be realistic!
  • Create steps on how you’re going to achieve these goals.
    • Be detailed. Do you need to learn something new? Do you need to buy something to help you achieve this goal? How many hours a week can you spend working towards this goal? Etc.
    • The more specific you are, the easier you’ll make it for yourself.
  • Take action.
    • Once you have your goals written down, it’s time to actually take action and make it happen!

Again, visualizing and even creating goal/mood boards is a great way to keep you driven towards reaching your goals; they’re just not enough on their own to get you there.

Celebrities and their manifestation stories

People often point towards Oprah and Jim Carrey when they talk about successful manifestation stories. This is because these celebrities are insanely successful and attribute some of their fame/success to manifestation.

However, people are overlooking all of the hard work, energy, failures and endless hours that both Oprah, Jim Carrey (and other celebrities) had to face! It took years for them to get to where they are now. They didn’t just wish really hard to become successful; they worked for it.

That’s a key difference between people who are successful and those who aren’t. Most successful people worked hard for the position they’re in (even if they come from more privileged backgrounds). Society usually only sees the good parts of someone’s story and never focuses on all of the hard work and dedication that they put in.

People who aren’t successful are often times not driven enough to get what they want and they typically expect success to come easily.

Of course, there are people in different circumstances, but I’m talking about the people who’ve had the same opportunities as everyone else and who simply don’t put in any effort.

Wrap-up

Manifesting is perfectly fine as long as you put actions behind your words. I’m going to be honest; I fell into the manifestation trap in 2021 and I was writing down my goals repeatedly. I really thought that was going to do something for me!

Obviously, it wasn’t until I started taking action that I started to see the results I wanted. Again, manifestation can be good and is a great way to become motivated and even stay driven towards reaching your goals. However, writing down your goals 100 times a day will not get you to where you want to be.
